Biodiversity Net Gain, done properly.
From the baseline habitat survey to the Biodiversity Gain Plan, we handle the whole BNG process, so your application goes in without surprises.
Four steps from site to sign-off.
Getting BNG right early shapes a better layout. We work alongside your architect from the start.
- 1Baseline habitat surveyUKHab survey and condition assessment of every habitat on site, in the right season.
- 2Metric calculationThe statutory biodiversity metric, calculated from the baseline survey and your proposed layout.
- 3Design adviceOn-site habitat creation and enhancement first, following the mitigation hierarchy.
- 4Gain Plan and HMMPThe Biodiversity Gain Plan and a habitat management and monitoring plan for discharge.
Most planning applications in England do.
The exemptions changed on 6 August 2026. Not sure where your project sits? Send us the site address and a short description and we'll tell you, free of charge.
The small site, de minimis and temporary exemptions don't apply where priority habitat would be harmed.

Questions we're often asked
When should I bring in an ecologist?
Before the layout is fixed. The baseline survey shapes what's achievable on site, and on-site gains are usually far cheaper than off-site units.
What if we can't reach 10% on site?
The shortfall can be met with off-site biodiversity units, and statutory credits as a last resort. We'll set out the options and costs.
How long does it take?
Not long. We plan the work around your programme and turn reports round quickly, so BNG doesn't hold up your application. The baseline habitat survey depends on the season, so the earlier you get in touch the better.
